Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele show severe male subfertility, impaired sperm binding to the zona pellucida and to extracellular matrix components, and impaired uterotubal junction transit, but no alterations in spermatogenesis, sperm morphology or sperm motility. Female fertility is normal.
