Mice homozygous for disruptions in this gene have a decreased startle reflex and occasional animals show increased aggression and hyperactivity. Mice homozygous for a transposon-induced knockout allele exhibit increased susceptibility to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection with higher bacterial titers, and impaired autophagosome formation along with increased bacterial survival and decreased intracellular concentration of Ca2+ in infected macrophages.
