Inactivation of both copies of this gene results in early embryonic lethality. Homozygosity for the phosphorylation-blocking p.S871S mutation leads to increased susceptibility to high-carb diet-induced hepatic steatosis, inflammation and fibrosis, and increased cholesterol, triglyceride and glucose levels.
