Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele show defective activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome in bone marrow-derived macrophages, decreased interleukin-1 beta secretion and impaired immune cell recruitment in a NLRP3-dependent peritonitis model induced by monosodium urate, and increased survival in an LPS-induced sepsis model.
