Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit variable embryonic growth retardation and incomplete embryonic lethality with a skewed sex ratio in favor of males, due to a severe deficit of female embryos that frequently arrest before E10.5. Surviving male homozygotes are healthy and fertile, whereas female homozygotes are rare and fail to produce offspring.
