Mice homozygous for a null allele show reduced FGF10-dependent morphogenesis of isolated fetal submandibular gland (SMG) epithelia, and decreased intact SMG branching morphogenesis with reduced 3-O-sulfation of heparan sulfate in the basement membrane. Adult mice show increased drinking frequency in the absence of SMG morphological defects.
