Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit abnormal embryo morphology, abnormal head shape, branchial arch/pouch defects, abnormal cardiac development often accompanied by yolk sac defects, pericardial edema, placentation defects, and complete lethality during organogenesis. A minority show incomplete closure of the cranial neural tube.
