Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit abnormal morula morphology and embryonic lethality before implantation. Mice homozygous for a different knock-out allele show early postnatal lethality. Heterozygotes show enhanced phasic and tonic inhibitory neurotransmission, a deficit in high-frequency stimulation-induced LTP, and impaired contextual fear memory.
