Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele are resistant to acute renal injury and inflammation in an LPS-induced sepsis model and show reduced IL1beta production and decreased NLRP3 activation-mediated pyroptosis of renal tubular epithelial cells in response to LPS challenge. Mice homozygous for a different knock-out allele are viable and healthy with no overt behavioral abnormalities at baseline but show deficits in long-term fear memory, with training-specific reductions in histone acetylation and gene transcription.
